Member Spotlight – Josie Wielinksi
Josie Wielinski serves Region IV as the Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness with the Department of Campus Recreation at Texas State University. Josie has been at Texas State since 2019, starting as the Graduate Assistant of Fitness & Wellness before transitioning to the Coordinator role.
Prior to joining Region IV, Josie started as a Group Fitness Instructor with The Ohio State University Recreational Sports in Region III where she “fell in love with teaching and eventually mentoring new instructors. In addition to her team as a an Instructor, Josie was a nutrition coach with the Student Wellness Center as part of a dietetic internship. Through this experience, Josie discovered the opportunity recreation could provide to both “promote preventative health measures and student development at the same time.”
After transitioning to Texas State, Josie was in the right place at the right time. “When the opportunity for a Coordinator position opened for Fitness & Wellness. I decided to apply and ended up getting the job. In this new role, I have been able to take on additional responsibilities in budgeting as well as planning a certification course curriculum and student staff supervision.”
Josie, an avid chef who experiments with various flavors and dishes (“Indian and Thai are my favorites”), has not abandoned her nutrition background. Anticipating to start in the Fall 2020 semester, Josie helped establish a nutrition coaching program. The program “will utilize dietetic interns and the work from specific nutrition classes to give students real-world experience” to provide one-on-one services to the Texas State campus community.
Though she is still fairly new to Region IV, Josie has enjoyed the camaraderie. “My favorite part about being a member of Region IV is the ability to build connections with other professionals and students across the region, as well as learn about the awesome things other professionals are doing with their programming.”
