Student Spotlight – Zach Cox
Our next Region IV Student Spotlight is Zach Cox with Recreation Sports at Texas Tech University. Zach, a senior, is a Rental Shop Manager at the Outdoor Pursuits Center with Rec Sports.
Zach found his way to Lubbock via his hometown of San Marcos, Texas, and immediately was impacted as a freshman. “I was interested in rock climbing when I was a freshman and decided I would want to work at the rock wall but immediately sparked a passion for all types of outdoor recreation and education.”
One of the more impactful experiences with Rec Sports for Zach was a return trip to his hometown. “I had the opportunity to take a group of students to San Marcos, Texas, to whitewater kayak. Witnessing the happiness and excitement on their faces was priceless.” As a part of the OPC crew with Rec Sports, Zach lives their programs motto, “Let’s Get After It” with each and every trip, climbing and outdoor educational opportunity.
“Let’s get after it” applies to others outside of an outdoor adventure arena, according to the math-loving Zach. “I think that anyone wanting to come into campus recreation has the opportunity to learn and grow as a professional; it’s all a matter of getting after it.”
When asked about his favorite part of being a student in Region IV, Zach said it’s “the opportunity to grow in such a welcoming community of equally passionate individuals.”
It’s great to hear that we’re able to provide that welcoming community for Zach, as well as other student and professionals in Region IV.
Glad to have Zach as a member of our NIRSA Region IV Family!
