Student Spotlight – Belinda Sanchez
Belinda Sanchez is a 2nd-year Graduate Assistant of Fitness and Wellbeing with Texas A&M University-Commerce, and she serves Region IV as the Student Leader for the state of Texas. In addition to this role, Belinda also serves as the Vice Chair of the Region IV Communications Committee and as a member of the Region IV Student Development Committee.
Outside of her NIRSA roles, she is also a Student Success Committee Member, a committee of the Department of Campus Recreation.
As Belinda is in her second year at TAMU-Commerce, her journey in recreation began at the University of Texas-Arlington. Belinda participated in UTA’s in-house group fitness instructor training program before moving into a leadership role as a the student coordinator for the group exercise program. This experience motivated her to apply for graduate assistantships.
Spending the entirety of her (brief, so far) career in Region IV, Belinda enjoys the family aspect and support of our great region:
My favorite part about being a student in Region IV is the family aspect we embody. Everyone is so friendly and is always willing to help. Whether they are a mentor or someone you just met everyone is always there to give advice or aid you in your campus rec journey.
The most impactful aspect of my experience in student recreation has been the support I have gotten from all professional members in my undergrad and GA experience. They have truly shaped me personally and professionally and I am so thankful to have found them in my journey.
Belinda may be in the early stages of her career, but she is already making a huge impact for NIRSA. She was instrumental in her role with the Communications Committee in facilitating the Hispanic Heritage Month Conversation Series.
