Student Spotlight – Isabell Trevino, Texas State Student Leader
Meet your 2021-2022 Texas State Student Leader, Isabell Trevino. Isabell is currently a junior at Texas Tech University where she serves as the Group Fitness Student Supervisor. Her experience at the Texas Tech UREC began her freshman year when she enrolled in the AFAA Group Fitness Instructor Course. After earning her certification, she worked as Group Fitness Instructor and began teaching various Group Fitness classes including kickboxing, cycling, and barre. When she is not teaching Group Fitness classes, you might find her working as a Fitness & Wellness shop assistant.
Isabell says that her experience in recreational sports has allowed her to gain confidence in herself both as a leader and as a team player. “The hands-on experience and being able to problem-solve real life situations with other like minded, goal oriented individuals has been the most valuable aspect of my experience,” Trevino says, “I have also been exposed to many different channels of recreational sports that I wasn’t knowledgeable about before.”
Her favorite part about being involved with NIRSA and serving as the Texas State Student Leader is having the ability to exchange ideas with others who are passionate about health and fitness. Isabell enjoys getting to build a collaborative and inclusive community for all to be a part of.
Some of Isabell’s other accomplishments include presenting at the 2021 Region IV conference. Isabell encourages anyone interested in joining the recreation field to push yourself out of your comfort zone and towards the best version of yourself. She says, “it can be intimidating at times working alongside more experienced individuals, but it’s those valuable interactions and learning moments that will shape you into a confident and knowledgeable leader.”
Isabell says she is excited to delve deeper into recreational sports through this position while contributing her own style and ideas to the NIRSA community. In her free time, Isabell enjoys traveling and experiencing new cultures. One fun fact about her is that she has eaten alligator, octopus, sea urchin and even ostrich eggs! You can keep up with all of Isabell’s adventures on social media @isabell_gfi.
